Project Overview

Over time, Salesforce orgs accumulate old and unused data.

Examples:

● Old Leads that never converted
● Test records created by developers
● Obsolete demo data
● Historical cleanup requirements

Manually deleting thousands of records is risky and inefficient.

In this project, we will build a Scheduled Cleanup Job that automatically deletes Leads older than 2 years, every night.

→ Think of this as a robot janitor cleaning your org while you sleep.

Business Requirement

The system must:

● Find Leads older than 2 years
● Delete them automatically
● Run once every night
● Handle large volumes safely

Data Model (Objects / Fields)

Object Used:
● Lead

Fields Used:
● CreatedDate

Functional Flow (How It Works)

1. Scheduler triggers every night.

2. Scheduler launches batch job.

3. Batch queries old Leads.

4. Records processed in chunks.

5. Leads are deleted safely.

6. Job completion logged.

Apex Design (What We Are Building)

We will create:

● Batch class implementing Database.Batchable<SObject>
● Scheduler class implementing Schedulable
● SOQL date filtering
● Safe bulk deletion

Implementation Steps

◆ Step 1 – Create Batch Class

Open Developer Console.

File → New → Apex Class

Class Name:

LeadCleanupBatch

Paste:

        Date cutoffDate = Date.today().addYears(-2);

        delete scope;
    }

    global void finish(Database.BatchableContext bc) {
        System.debug('Lead cleanup batch completed.');
    }

Save.

Step 2 – Create Scheduler Class

File → New → Apex Class

Class Name:

LeadCleanupScheduler

Paste:

    global void execute(SchedulableContext sc) {
        Database.executeBatch(new LeadCleanupBatch(), 200);
    }
}

Save.

Step 4 – Schedule the Job

Open Execute Anonymous Window in Developer Console.

Paste:

String cronExp = '0 0 2 * * ?'; // Runs every day at 2 AM
System.schedule('Daily Lead Cleanup Job', cronExp, new LeadCleanupScheduler());

Click Execute.

Example

If your org has:

Lead A → Created 3 years ago
Lead B → Created 1 year ago
Lead C → Created 5 years ago

After job runs:

Lead A → Deleted
Lead C → Deleted
Lead B → Remains

Monitoring the Job

Go to:

Setup → Apex Jobs

You can monitor:

● Job Status
● Processed Records
● Errors
